Mumbai’s culinary landscape has undergone a refreshing change over the past few years with interesting gourmet and gastronomy concepts cropping up at every nook and corner. Kino Hospitality, the name of renowned restaurants like Copa, Kino’s, Dishkiyaoon and To Know Where have conceptualised a novel concept that infuses gastronomy with playful energy.
The Looney, The Lover & The Poet is a breakfast to bar experience located in Khar. The name itself draws me to this newly found eatery. Spanning an impressive 3,000 sq ft, this all-day diner entails three unique sections based on the concept that every human has three aspects to their personality with each section having its own vibe and energy based on the time of day or night.
From local and global delicacies to keto-friendly, vegan and gluten-free dishes, the restaurant is home to a plethora of options. We have a host of recommendations for you while eating at The Looney! So, for starters, there’s the Afghani Ashak with Minced Lamb and Chifa Lomo Saltado which is Peruvian inspired French fries served with lamb. Interestingly, the restaurant features an open grill; so we recommend the Ras Al Hanout Spiced Chicken with Sumac Flavoured Feta Cream.
For entree, we recommend experimenting with the Chimichurri Lobster served with Handmade Spätzle in Sambuca Butter; and if you’re keen on something lighter, we cannot recommend the Rhubarb and Beet Fish with Edamame and Wasabi Skordalia enough. The Duck Dosa adds a touch of global pizzazz to the traditional dosa while the Hokkaido Curry with Jasmine Rice will transport you to the streets of Tokyo! For dessert – which is our personal favourite – you must treat yourself to the quirky All The Honey In The World, which features honey in every format from wildflower honey custard to honeycomb ice-cream.
If you’re opting for dinner and drinks, there are a host of intriguing concoctions for you to try. Most importantly, these cocktails are 100% natural and will not contain any chemicals, preservatives or additives. The restaurant has also tied up with the Moonshine Meadery, Bombay Duck Brewing and Great State Ale Works for their draught menu giving all you beer lovers a delightful selection of brews! The menu also features craft beverages like kombucha, cider and meads along with dairy-free smoothies, vegan cocktails and fruit wines.
The interiors had me thoroughly fascinated with their use of upcycled décor elements. You will find eco-friendly paints, BTC wood, LED lights, hand-painted furniture and recycled glass at the outlet which is helping the environment, while still looking great. Inspired by the mystical Shakespeare’s A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream, the walls host a bunch of art creating a whimsical atmosphere.
