The Hermes Spring Summer Collection 2017 was showcased at the elegantly done up La Garde Repblicaine. The collection concentrated on a ready to wear collection for women and bags.
The bags seem to have stolen the show. Exquisite bags with the exacting level of luxury, love and craftsmanship that Hermes is so well known for. The Cinetic d’Hermes, a solid ladylike boxy bag was the only large one but it was beautiful piece. Available in elephant grey or fir green alligator and lined in lambskin, with a silvery chain strap just the right side of clunky, giving its elegant proportions a hint of street edge. Delicate fringed horsehair and calfskin Toupet bags were also part of this collection. The Mini alligator and lizard bags, matchbox small with solid yellow or white gold link chains were a rage. Mini bags seem to be the new trend for spring /summer 2017 and Hermes definitely has taken that into account in their collection. Other accessories that stood out were the key chains and the silver punk rings.
The clothes had a varied choice of styles. The silver zips on the jumpsuits, jackets and collared short seventies day dresses took away from the quality of the leather and fabrics and the prints on the shirts were a tad bit jarring. On the other hand, an impeccably crafted tan intarsia T-shirt sweater edged in white and a long sporty black silk knit was a sensuous piece. The chic utilitarian twill trousers are a must have.
