Review: Inside the gorgeous Papa Don’t Preach by Shubhika Mumbai studio

Right from the time you enter the chic space which is the Papa Don’t Preach by Shubhika Mumbai studio, you’ll experience sass, bling and everything stunning. The studio spanning over 2500 sq feet area located Lower Parel is done tastefully and is enough to spell the personality of the designer brand: gorgeous with a dash of outlandish.

The structured silk boyfriend jackets with tailored pants, sheer skirts on body-con mirror embroidered dresses, embellished jumpsuits, pencil skirts with ruffle tops and lehengas with metallic rivet detailing caught my attention on their very first sight. Their Indian Couture 2018 overall collection comes across as dipped in tinted pop pastel hues of mint greens, aqua blues, blush pinks and lilacs.

I strongly feel that the draw of the collection lies in embroidery techniques which leverage metallic bangles, collar and cuff pins and ghungroos to concoct neoteric butterflies with fended metallic wings as embellishments. To dress every woman’s unpredictably predictable moods, the team releases distinct collections every year. And true to that, for me the team created two stunning looks shot by Reyhan Raibakker.

They styled me in their pink mid-calf length skirt embellished with gold sequins and acrylic mirrors paired with a pink sequence short jacket and a pink sequined blouse. A gold leather belt further accentuated the look. With this, I put on their pointed toe stilettos handcrafted in blush satin with a spread-out dragon wing. The embellished derby lace up counter in custom cut sequin, organza and glass tubes in an opposing blue is for sure a true-blue fashionista’s dream brought to life.

The make-up by Priyanka Balaporia was kept effortless with a fuss-free base, bright lips and ace highlighting complemented by big, beautiful tonged hair. The second look had to be the brand’s signature saree. The green saree was embellished with drop-dead-gorgeous pink and gold beads pre-stitched at the pallu and paired with a glam gold blouse.

I loved how the collection seamlessly defines their proposition, ‘She’s like a Ribbon around a Bomb.’ Not just their collection but even the whole shopping experience around the thoughtful and energetic team is like bliss. Finally, here is a fashion label which screams sass and beauty without conforming to any rules: unapologetically but so beautifully that it is perfect for the boss babe.
