Who can resist a heavenly slice of cheesecake with its crumbly biscuit or baked base and refreshing cream filling? Some people like it fruity, others rich and chocolatey, then there are those who prefer simple vanilla. I’ve gorged on some of the best, the world over. But when I tried Niti Saxena’s Mom’s Cheesecakes I was pleasantly surprised by the freshness and craftsmanship that could give the one at five stars a run for its money.
Tracing the genesis of the brand, Saxena belonged to a family of foodies and was forever spending time in the kitchen rustling up savory and sweet dishes. “Every time I would bake a cheesecake not only my family but friends would love it too. I slowly started getting requests for my cheesecakes from my friends for special occasions and I happily obliged. Then unfortunately my husband suddenly passed away in October 2017. I was in a state of shock.
Having said that, I follow a philosophy called Nichiren Daishonin’s Buddhism which helped me change my negative mindset into a positive one.
Hence the journey of mom’s cheesecakes started. I started this beautiful journey on March 16th, 2018, in the memory of my late husband. He always appreciated my cooking and wanted me to start something in the food industry,” she shares.
Love and cheesecake
Saxena remarks that every cheesecake that she sends out is baked with a lot of love and prayers for patrons who will consume it. Her tagline is “ spreading happiness and comfort through my cheesecakes. “There are a lot of people who live away from their homes because of their work. I have created a Mini cheesecakes for them as they cannot consume a whole cake by themselves.
Last year I tied up with Scootsy as my delivery partner. I also use We fast delivery to deliver my cakes to suburban Mumbai.
I can happily state that there has been no looking back since March 2018,” she shares.
In terms of additions, Saxena is testing out small batches of savory cheesecakes, and as soon as she is satisfied with the flavor profile, plans are underway to put them on the menu.
The brand’s best-sellers are Oreo cheesecake and fresh seasonal fruit cheesecake. Saxena also customizes cheesecakes according to patron’s requests. She makes her own toppings for eg. salted caramel, lemon curd, dark chocolate ganache myself.
Putting to test
We tried Saxena’s seasonal Mango Cheesecake and must say that it passed the cheesecake test with flying colors. The creamy slice of the good, the freshness of the mangoes, and the crunchy crust done to the tee makes it one of the best cheesecakes in the city. The incredibly smooth and divine treat lingered on our tongues for a long long time, serving us enough reasons to rave about this one.
