It’s finally December and all we can think about in this month of decadence, are desserts! And while Mumbai, has no shortage of good desserts, good is not what we are going for. After careful scouting around Mumbai’s famed dessert haunts and not-so-famous ones too (we’re not complaining), we have come up with 5 such desserts that go far beyond the “good”. From sinful, cushiony cheesecakes to explosive chocolate mousses to jars full of dreamy red velvet, we’ve got you covered. So what are you waiting for? Go check out some the city’s most calorific creations and thank us later. After all, what good is a meal if it doesn’t end on a sweet note, right?
Candy Cake – La Folie (Rs. 235)
Drawing inspiration from MasterChef Australia, La Folie’s Candy Cake looks like something straight out of a fairy-tale. Purposefully infusing a sense of youth into the 7-layered cake, the dessert will make you reminiscent for long-forgotten flavours from the past. Think a mouth-watering mix of childhood classics such as chocolate biscuit, buttercream, minty Mentos, marshmallows and more.
Address: La Folie, 16, Commerce House, Next to Trishna Restaurant, Rope Walk Lane, Kala Ghoda, Fort, Mumbai.
Red Velvet Jar – Country of Origin (Rs.875)
There is a reason why Country of Origin’s Dessert Jars are the best. They invented them! And although they come in a whole range of diet-defying flavours, the Red Velvet one is our absolute favourite. With good reason too! Unabashedly velvety and decadent and sweet without being saccharine, the drool-inducing dessert is the epitome of all that is right with the world.
Address: Country of Origin, 69, Nepean Sea Road, Manisha Building, Malabar Hill, Mumbai.
Chocolate Mousse – Suzette (Rs.120)
Most famous for their melt-in-your-mouth crepes, Suzette’s dense and dreamy dark Belgian chocolate mousse, is definitely its unsung hero. The result of a secret family recipe, the fact that the sublime, multi-texturous (it has a slight bite to it) mousse is served in a cutting chai glass, makes it all the more darling.
Address: Suzette, Shop 1A, Ground Floor, Atlanta Building, Nariman Point.
Raspberry Delice – Yauatcha (Rs.350)
Probably Mumbai’s most Instagrammed dessert, Michelin-starred Yauatcha’s Raspberry Delice is the stuff of dreams. Plated up with breath-taking finesse, the rich red chocolate mousse masks a brownie base which is absolutely to die for. The raspberry coulis and ice cream on the side, only make this divine dessert, all the more delectable. Be warned, you’ll be coming back for more!
Address: Yauatcha, First Floor, Raheja Tower Bandra Kurla Complex, Bandra East, Mumbai.
Ghevar Cheesecake – Masala Library (Rs.375)
Taking two of the most classic favourites there are and fusing them into one exquisite palate-pleaser is no easy feat. But Masala Library does it. And with effortless ease at that. The sublime Ghevar Cheesecake, which comes with a spoonful of rich rabdi and a crunchy chikki brittle is an explosion of flavours to say the least. Innovative and irresistible in equal parts, this is one cheesecake we simply can’t get enough of.
