Amrita Sher-Gil: The Passionate Quest
The National Gallery of Modern Art in Mumbai will be hosting an ongoing exhibition dedicated to artist extraordinaire Amrita Sher-Gil. The display curated by art historian and Sher-Gil’s biographer herself Yashodhara Dalmia, will boast of close to 100 of the artists works. The exhibition will include paintings depicting Sher-Gil’s entire journey through Paris, Hungary and finally India. She once remarked, “I can only paint in India. Europe belongs to Picasso, Matisse, Braque… India belongs only to me.” Catch the Amrita Sher-Gil: The Passionate Quest at the NGMA, Fort, Mumbai before the 29th of June. A must visit for all art connoisseurs.

aRanya’s PARK at Prithvi
Theater lovers can catch the delightfully funny aRanya’s PARK at Prithvi Theatre on both the 24th as well as the 25th of June. Written and directed by Manav Kaul the layered comedy promises to keep you in splits while providing you with an incredible insight into human nature. The plot revolves around three men squabbling over a public park bench; the actors achieved praise for playing out their characters skillfully and believably.

Opera enthusiasts will be pleased to find out that the National Centre for the Performing Arts will be showcasing an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi on Thursday the 26th of June. The tragic love story revolves around the Duke of Mantua, his hunchbacked court jester Rigoletto and his daughter, Gilda. The extravagant opera boasts of outstanding performances by Diana Damrau, Oksana Volkova, Piotr Beczala and Sefan Kocan among many.

The Nehru centre will be holding its annual monsoon show ‘Chatak’ from Tuesday the 24th of June. The 22nd year of the monsoon show will also exhibit the art work of around 30 students from the districts of from Nagpur, Satara, Nashik, Pune, Sangli Thane and Mumbai. The extensive display by the talented students will include works of all kinds of different styles and mediums as well as a few sculptures. A must visit for those looking to pick up something indigenous and unique for their home.
