A children’s hospital in Vegas gets a stunning 5-foot tall heart sculpture with working gears

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Las Vegas, in collaboration with the GES, Global Experience Specialists, and the city of Las Vegas, had put up several huge heart sculptures under its Hearts of Las Vegas exhibits. The exhibit sports ten three-dimensional, five-foot-tall heart statues custom created by a professional artist. An interesting piece comes from artist Dale Mathis tagged “Touched by an Angel,” wherein an angel can be seen mending a broken heart. The Heart has been created using Gypsum and is finished with Gold and silver leaf.

The gears and mechanisms are made using wood, and aircraft-grade aluminum, with the braided lines and hoses, come from customized cars. The heart’s gears actually work and sport a neon light that glows when the gears are in motion. The artist confirms that he will be making another one which will be priced at $100,000.
