Cartier’s sold gold replica of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module to be exhibited

The Forbes Galleries on 5th avenue in New York will be hosting an exhibition titles ‘Out of This World! Jewelry in the Space Age,’ The exhibition will play home to interstellar jewelry in all forms, including pieces worn by astronauts. One of the highlights of this show will be the Cartier Solid Gold Lunar Excursion Model replica created in commemoration of Apollo 11 on the moon. Three models were created in total, each for Astronauts Michael Collins, Neil Armstrong, and Buzz Aldrin. As a reward for their incredible feat, they traveled to Paris, where they received the solid gold replicas. Two of these remain in private collections, while the third is part of the Cartier Collection.

Cartier’s Apollo 11 gold replica has been created as accurately as possible and is extremely detailed, inside each model is embedded a piece of microfilm from the French newspaper Le Figaro which outlines the names of readers who donates funds to create these incredibly detailed models. The Exhibition starts 16th March and will give fans a gilded glimpse of the Final Frontier.
