Donald Rumsfeld’s $50,000 portrait will adorn the walls of Pentagon

Pentagon is known to honor all Secretaries of Defense for their contribution to the administration by placing/hanging their portraits in the Department of Defense. So it was no doubt that a portrait of former Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld would also hang beside those of his predecessors including one of himself when he served as Defense secretary from 1975 to 1977. And just recently, at an unveiling ceremony hosted by the current secretary of Defense, Robert M. Gates at the Pentagon, Donald Rumsfeld unveiled a painting of himself. No ordinary portrait this, it reportedly boasts of a $50,000 price tag which was paid for personally by the former Secretary of defense himself.

The painting shows Rumsfeld at his stand-up desk with a picture of first-responders and soldiers unfurling the flag over the still-burning Pentagon on Sept. 12, 2001. Looks like when it comes to portraits, Rumsfeld has no qualms about shelling out money.
