It was a felicitation time for Indian athletes, as Sports Illustrated magazine honored several sports stars at a function in Mumbai on Monday. Among the many great sports personalities that were felicitated at this event, was India’s (actually the greatest in the world for me) greatest batsmen ever, “Little Master” Sachin Tendulkar, and tennis sensation Sania Mirza. The master blaster of Indian cricket was given a special miniature gold bat and his award in recognition of his latest record-breaking feat – the first double century scored by a batsman in One day International Cricket.
Besides honoring talented sports personalities, the event also felicitated the 50 most influential people in Indian sport, a list topped by Tendulkar himself. IPL Chairman Lalit Modi took the second spot while Vijay Mallya came in third. Kings XI Punjab co-owner and Bollywood superstar Preity Zinta too found a mention in this list (no. 23) and was presented with a diamond-studded cricket ball. Sania Mirza, too was not left out of this list and was presented with a beautiful miniature gold tennis ball.
The stars and the unique rewards made this event a glittering affair.
