While some of us still scramble on the last of our remaining pennies towards the end of the month, there are others who are only turning wealthier by the day! Given the global evolution and the rise in entrepreneurship, it is isn’t surprising that the purchasing power of people across the globe has only been increasing each year. However, a recent report shows the number of billionaires around the world has now reached a whopping 2101! Yes, that’s right!
According to the study published by Swiss investment bank- UBS, the global population of billionaires is now up by 38.9 percent from five years ago. The report also states that the combined wealth of the world’s billionaires has reached $8.5 trillion in 2018, which is a 35 percent increase from 2013. The numbers also capture a rise in women joining the ranks with a total of 233 female billionaires globally from the 160 recorded back in 2013.
Commenting on the statistics, Marcel Tschanz of UBS said, “First the EU [European Union] action plan for Sustainable Finance, then the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals have shown the world how individuals and institutions are expected to foster sustainability.” He further added, “The broad public, however, is just catching up with our self-made entrepreneurs, who in the past years have transformed, innovated, and become more strategic in their ways of doing good.” Well, here’s hoping that the wealth of the world trickles down to those who need it the most in the time to come!
