The 2011 Swarovski Crystal Star for Rockefeller Tree is unveiled by Olivia Wilde

It’s that time of the year again when the Swarovski Crystal Star for Rockefeller Tree gets unveiled. After Blake Lively last year, it was Actress Olivia Wilde who did the honors this year around. Unveiled at the Midtown Wednesday, the tree will see the crystal Swarovski star grace the tip of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree for 2011. Comprised of 25,000 crystals, with 1,000,000 facets, this year’s 12-point star measures 9 1/2 feet in diameter and 1 1/2 feet deep. Featuring 300 pounds of crystal panels, the 2011 Swarovski star was placed atop the 74-foot Norway Spruce and dazzled a bit more than usual thanks to 720 LED bulbs.

Wilde, dressed in a silver dress, a Phenix Indicolite necklace, and prism earrings from Swarovski’s 2011 fall/winter collection, shimmered just as much.
She said, “I was a New York kid, and the tree at Rockefeller Center is such an emotional thing for me. I’m so honored to be able to unveil the beautiful star that will go on top.
The tree will be lit in a special tree-lighting service that is expected to see names like Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber.
