If you are a wine connoisseur, actually, if you are a wealthy wine connoisseur, this piece of news is definitely for you. Wine Opus, a large wine book weighing 30kg and priced at a whopping $1million, is expected to be released in the Spring of 2010. The book published by Kraken Opus will feature and list the world’s top 100 wineries. But it is not just the humongous weight that has contributed to the mammoth price tag. Buyers who shell out this exorbitant sum will get a six-bottle case of wine from every one of the 100 wineries listed. A panel of experts will draw up the list. The panel will shortlist about 300 producers. A second panel, comprising 40 sommeliers, will make the final selection, based on a ‘number of criteria’ at a ‘wine UN meeting’ in London in 2010. What is more, the Wine Opus will be limited to just 100 copies, of which 25 have already been pre-ordered. Some books will be kept aside for auctions as well.
So if you are a wine connoisseur with $1 million to spare, you had better book your copy right away.
