Swiss Court has ordered Dmitry Rybolovlev, owner of French football club AS Monaco to pay more than $4.5 billion to his ex-wife Elena Rybolovleva in what could become the most expensive divorce in history. Divorce proceedings began in 2008 when his ex-wife had demanded $5.77 billion from the Russian tycoon. Both are aged 47 and were married for 24 years.
Elena was also granted his ex-wife property worth $146 million in Gstaad. She was also awarded two other pieces of real estate in Cologny, where the couple once lived together with their two daughters. She has also been awarded custody of their younger daughter, Anna, who is 13. Their 24 year old daughter Ekaterina is a popular socialite.
The couple met as university students in Perm, Russia, and married in 1987. They had been in a six-year court battle in which Rybolovlev put up strong resistance to his ex-wife claims of two of the most expensive properties in the USA and a £100million Greek island of Skorpios.
Rybolovlev also owns a Hawaii mansion he bought from Hollywood actor Will Smith, and 6,744 sq ft apartment in Manhattan. In 2008, he also purchased Donald Trump’s 33,000 sq ft Maison L’Amitie for $95 million.
In the Forbes list for 2014, Dmitry Rybolovlev was ranked 147 among world’s billionaires with a net worth of $8.8 billion.
