President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden have a new member in their family. The newest member is not a bonny baby, but a pure-bred German shepherd named ‘Commander.’ The latest occupant of the White House was introduced to the world by the President himself, who captioned the tweet, ‘Meet the newest Biden’ and posted a cute video of the pup playing with a tennis ball on the South Lawn of the White House. The clip also shows the Bidens walking him on a leash into the White House, feeding him a treat with Christmas decorations on display in the background.

Commander joined the Biden family in The White House after his brother, Major, got involved in too many biting scandals, including several members of the Secret Service. Major and his older brother Champ (who passed away in June) were sent back to Delaware in March to stay with family. The first lady’s spokesman Michael LaRosa shared with New York Times reporter Katie Rogers, “After consulting with dog trainers, animal behaviorists, and veterinarians, the First Family has decided … it would be safest for Major to live in a quieter environment with family friends. This is not in reaction to any new or specific incident, but rather a decision reached after several months of deliberation as a family and discussions with experts,’ shared Daily Mail.

It sounds like the Biden’s are ardent dog lovers, but that’s not the case. Calling them animal lovers would be more apt as the Biden’s will soon adopt a cat. In April, First Lady Jill Biden said that the cat is ‘waiting in the wings.’ NBC News reported Monday that the cat is expected to arrive at the White House in January after being fostered by acquaintances. There are more animal lovers in the Biden family. Joe Biden’s daughter Ashley is a staunch animal rights activist who showed a love for animals at a very young age and helped in dolphin conservation.
