Meet Elan Valley Sally: the ideal livestock guardian for your farm! And it’s not us who’s saying this! In proving its caliber (and quality), a border collie from Brecon has become the world’s most expensive sheepdog after being sold for £19,451 or $ 24,084 at an auction in North Yorkshire.
The 19-month-old working dog was bought by an unknown buyer at the Farmers’ Mart online sale at Dolgellau, Gwynedd. He was sold by top handler David Evans of Libanus, Brecon for a rather grand price and will be taken to work out of a farm in the UK post-sale. The adorable black and white shepherd dog is bred by Dean Addison of Pen Y Garreg, Rhayader, and was sired by Derwen Doug, owned by David Evans’ son Kevin, one of the top trialists of his generation.
Commenting on the sale, Kevin in a statement said, “Dad knew Sally was something a bit special when he offered her for sale. She is a quality young bitch with a lovely temperament. We didn’t quite know how things would work out with this selling format, but it’s worked well.” The previous world record for the most expensive sheepdog was held by two-and-a-half-year-old sheepdog Megan who was sold for £18.9k or $23.4 to a ranch owner in Oklahoma, USA in February this year.
