Bluewaters a $1.6bn island project to adorn Dubai


Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, continues his effort to make Dubai a force to reckon with, by announcing a $ 1.6bn island development off the coast of Jumeirah Beach Residence, called The Bluewaters Island project. It will be home to the world’s largest Ferris wheel, the 210-meter Dubai Eye. The offing is dedicated retail, residential, hospitality, and entertainment zones along with a luxury five-star hotel, making the project a complete tourist hotspot.

April 2013 will kick start the project, and Hyundai Contracting and Starneth Engineering are the primary contractors for the Dubai Eye. It will be connected to the mainland with a direct roadway from the Shaikh Zayed Road, monorail, plus a pedestrian bridge linking it to the JBR beachfront. This will surely be the new jewel in Dubai’s crown.
