Review: Balance Wellness by Anantara, Maldives – An Indulgent Sanctum set on a Tropical Playground

When spa days are the best days

Anantara Veli’s Balance Wellness by Anantara spa is set in archetypical Maldives style – thatched pavilions surrounded by thick stands of coconut palms nestled on the white-sand beach. Set within close proximity to almost every nook and corner of the lush-green resort, the spa will take even the most discerning traveler’s breath away. Amidst our hectic routine on the island, which essentially entailed binging, wading through turquoise waters and unwinding on our villa’s private terrace, we decided to book ourselves in for a spa treatment.

Basking in some Accolades and Achievement
The warm welcome wagon

Our agenda for that pleasant morning was the Anantara Signature Spa Treatment, a one hour massage which came highly recommended by the spa receptionist. As we walked into the colossal marquee, a space I concluded was the reception, we were requested to be seated by the receptionist. An adorable wooden tray of assorted oils adorned the table, each bottling different oils recommended for various massages. An exhaustive menu occupied a prominent part of the table which explained in much detail the range of scrubs, facials and massages available. Our therapists handed over consultation forms to be filled – a practice followed by most renowned spas – requesting details of any existing ailments. Minimalistic furnishings and the abundance of natural light contributed to the decidedly natural ambience of the reception area.

I truly cherished this serene space

A customary practice followed which entailed locking up any valuables and changing into a soft, cotton bathrobe. We were then escorted to the spa relaxation garden – a finely executed airy space dressed with pool chairs, a sauna, a steam room and hot and cold plunge pools. A tray with cool towels and ginger tea arrived, which mentally prepared me for the experience which lied ahead.

Nothing like an ensuite bathtub!

Shortly after, we walked past four treatment suites and were then welcomed into ‘Lavanya’, our couple treatment suite. As I walked past the glass doors, a whiff of lemongrass engulfed my senses. I comprehended quickly that lemongrass is a time-honored fragrance of Thailand. The spacious interiors comprised of glass walls and simplistic sheer curtains; while two therapy beds and a marble tub set the mood for exotic relaxation.

The Magic Potion!
My amazing therapist Kala, who worked wonders on me!

Massages are honestly the most memorable part of my vacation; especially if performed by an exceptional therapist. Thankfully, my therapist Kala was simply divine. Her hands effortlessly glided through my back loosening every knot and massaging the aromatic Meridien Lines oil into the problem areas. I allowed her fingers to dig deeper into my calves, as she stretched my body into acrobatic positions. I realised just about then how inflexible I really was. Unsurprisingly through my treatment, I dozed off for a major part of it.

I would definitely recommend the Anantara Signature Spa Treatment if you’re seeking a relaxing and energized experience. I woke up feeling refreshed and invigorated, and opted for a quick steam session. Over the years, I have come to realise how imperative a steam session is for your body. The sweltering heat gently opens up all the pores and eliminates the toxins. A brief shower later, I changed into my tropical attire for the day and strolled towards my poolside lunch.

The Anantara Signature Spa Treatment is a 60 min massage and costs USD 170 plus taxes per person (Approx INR 11,400).
