It’s been 35 years since an Iranian Shah commissioned the development of the Mercedes Geländewagen (let’s call it the G-Wagen) truck. Coming all these miles into a future of hybrids and sleeks, the monster of a truck is far from settling for vintage. The truck was originally developed by Steyr-Daimler-Puch in the 1970s and continued its reign as the coolest off-road vehicle.
Mercedes has announced the launch of a special edition G-Wagen truck to celebrate the off-road delights it has been promising all these years. It arrives with metallic black accents on those angry looking 18-inch alloys, bumpers, fender flares, mirror and roof. It retains the body-on-frame architecture and packs a 5L V-8 putting out 382hp and 390lb-ft coupled to a 7-speed automatic gearbox. This variant is available only in white, black or silver in the exterior and an interior in two-tone white and black or all black. The red stitching enhances the design even further.
