A new employee at the Lamborghini factory has singlehandedly caused a recall for 26 Aventador SVJs

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Lamborghini. The coronavirus outbreak which has been wreaking havoc in Italy has forced the supercar manufacturer to temporarily cease production; and, now, the Italian marque along with the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a recall notice for 26 Aventador SVJs. Just to jog your memory, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is a limited edition variant of the company’s flagship model. Created especially to be blisteringly fast on race circuits, the Aventador SJC coupe currently holds the record for the fastest lap around the famous Nurburgring. The fact that Lamborghini is only going to build 900 units of the coupe version and 800 SVJ roadsters, both the variants are hugely desirable amongst Lamborghini patrons and car collectors. This means a recall doesn’t really bode well for the Italian manufacturer, especially when the fault in the cars is the doing of a single factory technician.

The statement issued by Lamborghini and NHTSA states: “During the assembly a non properly trained new operator may have not correctly engaged the Bowden cable pin inside the internal door handles.” What that means is the door handles inside the cabin can fail with no prior warning. This potentially creates a dangerous situation for the occupants in case of an emergency. The issue, however, doesn’t affect the outside door handles. Lamborghini says it discovered the fault during end-on-line quality controls and it exists only in SVJs with manufacturing dates between December 2019 and January 2020. Lamborghini stated the affected owners will be notified shortly and the whole internal door handle will be replaced at dealerships. Lamborghini plans to begin making the repairs around May 1, given that the world manages to come out of the clutches of coronavirus by then.
