In the era of downsizing and EV-fication of popular models, Aston Martin has taken a bold step to announce a new generation of its fire-breathing V12 engine. The British luxury automaker has been producing V12 gasoline engines for its flagship models since 1999, and thankfully, it won’t stop doing so anytime soon. Currently, Aston Martin offers a twin-turbocharged V12 in its outgoing and range-topping DBS Superleggera. However, just when we thought the mighty Aston V12 might be done for good, the marque went ahead to announce a new version of its 12-cylinder engine that will power the “most exclusive and limited availability models.”
Calling it a “complete redesign,” Aston Martin says the new-generation V12 features a bunch of updates over its predecessor to offer a lot more horsepower and meet the emission requirements well into the future. Changes made to the engine include reprofiled camshafts, redesigned cylinder heads, strengthened cylinder blocks, repositioned spark plugs, higher flowrate fuel injectors, and reduced inertia turbochargers. While the actual displacement of the new V12 has not been announced, the initial iteration will be capable of producing 823 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. In comparison, the V12 powering the DBS 770 Ultimate churns out 759hp.
Aston Martin also claimed the new V12 will be handcrafted in limited numbers and “will make its first appearance in a new flagship model.” While the automaker did not reveal the name of the model except for saying that it’ll debut later this year, it did end the official release with a cryptic message that reads: “All will be vanquished.” It’s a no-brainer that Aston is hinting at bringing back the Vanquish that will sit at the top of the range with the mighty new V12. Will it have any form of electrification? Well, nothing has been confirmed yet.
