C-Explorer 5 is the world’s first subsea limousine from U-Boat Worx

Those who love their water toys will find it especially hard to resist this new baby from Dutch submarine manufacturer U-Boat Worx. Launched at the 22nd Monaco Yacht Show this September, this baby will surely make all boys who love their toys drool. Christened the C-Explorer 5 (or the CE5 in short), this beauty is submarine-like no other and is dubbed by its makers as “the world’s first subsea limousine.” Two years in the making (our readers would remember that we announced her conception way back in 2010), this submarine is truly a class apart. The CE5 is air-conditioned and designed to seat four plus a pilot.

The CE5 boasts of a pressurized hull that enables it to descend to a maximum depth of 300 meters (1,000 feet), and she can achieve a top speed of 3 knots. Powered by high-capacity lithium-ion batteries that enable it to maintain operational autonomy for eight hours (with an upgrade option to 16), the CE5 can also maintain life support for 96 hours in an emergency. 2-kilowatt thrusters handle the CE5’s horizontal and vertical propulsion, and buyers also have the option of buying two more 1.2-kilowatt models.
Those who really want to go all out can also invest in an external manipulator arm, imaging sonar, LED lights, an HD video camera, and even a tethered remote-operated vehicle that lets you explore areas that the CE5 cannot reach.
Finally, when it comes to the looks of this beauty, it surely does not disappoint. The right toy for the millionaire boys and girls, the CE5 has an asking price of $2.4 million. For more info on this subsea beauty, click here.
