Despite gold and Swarovski trimmings, 2005 Mercedes-Benz CL500 AG Excalibur fails to lure buyers

If you believed that loyalists and lovers of opulence would lap up everything bling, then you are mistaken. A 2005 Mercedes-Benz CL500 AG Excalibur encrusted with Swarovski crystals on the inside, including the buttons, switches, gear knob, and camera operating joystick, a re-sculpted Kevlar and fiberglass chassis was up for grabs. Created by tuning company AG, the car based on the 2005 Mercedes-Benz CL500 also sports a handcrafted dashboard, seats, doors, and headliner in beige-hued Alcantara leather and “limited edition Swarovski fabric.” Furthermore, all the buttons and switches have been replaced by Swarovski crystals. Moreover, the car also comes with custom emblems done up in 24-carat gold.

Estimated to fetch between £50,000 and £80,000 ($80,000 – $128,000) the car sold for a paltry £35,840 ($57,400), lower than what was expected, making me say, all that glitters may be gold, but that doesn’t mean it’ll sell like gold!
