Last year Airbus launched their H160 helicopter that astonishingly combines 68 different Airbus Helicopters-patented technologies. Featuring the largest-ever Fenestron® shrouded tail rotor (it reduces noise and vibrations while keeping the helicopter aerodynamic), and the Biplane Stabilizer 9which improve maneuverability and stability) this helicopter represents the most cutting edge technology and design available.
A composite airframe reduces weight while needing less maintenance, and resisting corrosion and wear. The H160 is also fuel efficient as Airbus says its Turbomeca Arrano turboshaft engines will use up to 20% less fuel than other similarly sized helicopters. The helicopter can carry 12 people at a cruising speed of about 185 mph for over 500 miles. Weighing in at only 5.5 to 6 tons, this model is small enough to fit most heliports making it well suited to travelers who seek out little known destinations.
There’s no price on the H160 as of now but service entry is planned for 2018 with a first flight expected later this year.
