In giving the world yet another mega-yacht to dream upon, Pininfarina Nautical has teamed up with the design studio Carkeek Design Partners for the design of the Persico F70- a full-foiling, 70-foot ‘hyperboat’.
Crafted from carbon composite, the lightweight 70-footer features a unique aerodynamic silhouette that’s conducive to breakneck cruising. It combines the latest tech with lavish living quarters to seamlessly double as a regatta racer as well as a daysailer.
It is also fitted with a set of innovative retractable wings along with elevators on the rudder blade that allow it to fly across the water with minimal drag. Holistically speaking, its design is similar to that of the AC75 foiling monohulls that recently competed in the 2021 America’s Cup, as also stated by the team.
Equipped with special software (CFD and VPP) to help with performance and handling, the hyperboat can reach full flight mode with only 10 knots of wind and is “ultra-fast” speed-wise. On the inside, the vessel features a series of “structural rings” to emphasize the length and width of the boat along with luxe furnishing and amenities.
Commenting on it, Pininfarina’s chief yacht designer Daniele Mazzon said, “On the F70, we have combined the hydrodynamic expertise of Carkeek with the aerodynamic know-how we have developed over the last 50 years in our own wind tunnel, while further adding, “Indeed, the interiors are open space with a series of structural rings, creating a perspective illusion that emphasizes the length and width of the boat and expresses a dual passion for daysailing and racing performance.”
Remarking similarly, Marcello Persico, president of Persico Marine stated, “We are very pleased to collaborate once again with Pininfarina after our successful Wally Cento in 2017. Creating a great team is the best lead-in to the market for a boat capable of making history, as the Persico F70 project is proposing to do. A craft of this type requires a design of the highest level, great technology, and construction expertise, and the best designers: we have built a solid partnership to attain this ambitious goal.”
Lastly, Shaun Carkeek, the lead designer of Carkeek Design Partners, noted, “The F70 will be a boat without precedent. The foils, derived from those on the IMOCA60, will be aided by elevators on the rudder blade, just like those on the AC75s. This way, the boat can reach full flight mode with only 10 knots of wind without resting on the downwind side of the hull. What’s more, the foils will be completely retractable to allow the F70 to dock easily.”
Here’s awaiting the launch of the Persico F70 with bated breaths!
