Limited edition Ford GT Carbon Series goes on a diet to get even faster around race tracks

Ford has introduced a new limited-edition version of its GT supercar that arrives with a long list of weight-shedding innovations to drop nearly 40 pounds compared to the standard Ford GT. Called the Carbon Series, it is the lightest car in Ford’s GT line-up. As the name suggests, the new special edition features more visible carbon fiber than any previous model. “The Ford GT Carbon Series stands out on the road with its striking carbon fiber-rich design and on the track with its athleticism,” says Hermann Salenbauch, global director, Ford Performance. “It is yet another example of how we can bring to life our Le Mans-winning supercar in new and exciting ways so our customers can share in that magical legacy.”

To lose weight, the Carbon Series gets a titanium exhaust and lightweight polycarbonate rear hatch with extra ventilation for the V6 engine. Additionally, the lug nuts are made of titanium and the wheels have been upgraded to carbon fiber. The car features two exposed carbon fiber stripes with matching A-pillars, lower body panels on the exterior and matte carbon fiber sills, air register pods and center console on the inside. Additional distinguishing design elements include anodized paddle shifters and a unique, silver-stitched pattern on the seats and steering wheel. But Ford has made sure that this performance-focused version still comes with just enough creature comforts for everyday use such as air conditioning, a stereo and Ford’s Sync infotainment system. Stowage bins and cup holders, on the other hand, have been removed for weight saving. Mechanically the car is identical to the standard variant
