Uber has committed a series of mishaps in the recent times. From overcharging its customers to paying millions for having stolen customer data erased from its records, the cab-provider has done all that it probably shouldn’t have. While we hoped for it to learn and become better, Uber only seems to be doing the exact opposite with each passing day!

Recently, the service provider charged a whopping $18,518.50 ($14,000 USD) to a Canadian rider for a five-mile ride. The 21-minute journey that should have costed him an estimated $12- $16 (surge-price included), ended up being a nightmare for the rider instead. On being harassed by Uber in this bizarre fashion, the rider by the name of ‘votethehish’ took to his Instagram account and posted a screenshot of the receipt that went viral on social media. Another user by the name of Emily Kennard, who claims to be the harassed rider’s friend further propogated the news on Twitter.
While, it was initially reported that Uber refused to give the rider his refund, the cab-provider was quick to acknowledge its mistake. It has now initiated a legitimate refund to the him. A spokesperson for Uber further clarified, “There was an error here and it has been resolved. We have provided a full refund to this rider and apologized to him for this experience. We have safeguards in place to help prevent something like this from happening, and we are working to understand how this occurred.” Looks like Uber needs to up its service game after all!
