Airlines often receive more flak than praise and thus it’s a triumph of sorts when a pool of travelers vote for a particular airline as numero uno. Achieving this feat is Singapore Airlines that was recently voted as the number one in TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice awards for Airlines. A passenger’s favorite across the globe, the company also won the title for the world’s best economy-class airline.
Commenting on the win, Goh Choon Phong, CEO of Singapore Airlines stated, ““We are very pleased to be a back-to-back winner of the Best Airline in the World accolade in these prestigious awards.” He further added, “We wish to thank our customers for their ongoing support, as well as our staff from all around the world who go the extra mile every day to deliver the best travel experience to our customers.” Other names on the list included- Qatar Airways. EVA Air, Emirates, Japan Airlines (JAL), Southwest Airlines, Azul, Air New Zealand, Jet2.com and ANA (All Nippon Airways) – in the same order.
As clearly evident, Asian Carries dominated the poll with the top four spots followed by Middle Eastern airlines such as Emirates. Commenting on what makes Singapore Airlines a favorite, George Hobica founder of Airfarewatchdog.com said, “The planes are new and clean, the cabin crew, who go through the most rigorous recruitment and training process in the airline industry, are beyond compare. With its new first-class product on some newer planes, with a comfy lounge chair and a separate bed, Singapore seems to be saying catch us if you can: whatever the airline equivalent is of ‘eat our dust’ — maybe ‘inhale our vapor trail.” This is a second win for Singapore Airlines after it won the same coveted title last year.
