It’s been a turbulent ride for Dubai’s Emirates airlines over the past few months especially as back in November they announced a 75% drop in profits for the first half of the fiscal year. However the airline is facing the setback head on with plans to offer their services and amenities to more passengers for a price. The airline already allows optional seat selection to economy passengers and gives them access to First and Business Class lounges for $100-$200.
Rumor has it, the airline will also charge for other benefits like premium meals and beverages available to order and chauffeur car service for economy passengers in Dubai. Most significantly however, Emirates may allow Business Class passengers the opportunity to use their famous showers (on board the A380) in First Class.
These showers already get a lot of use from First Class passengers, so monetizing them for Business Class passengers could prove lucrative. On the other hand, the Points Guy speculated that if the price is right, potential First Class passengers might just buy Business Class tickets instead. Additionally, the coveted showers may lose the exclusivity that First Class passengers have come to expect. There’s no predicting how the move will affect ticket sales for Emirates, so it will be interesting to see what the airline’s next move will be.
