Damien Hirst installs a 12 ft. sculpture in the middle of a frozen lake in St Moritz, Switzerland

Switzerland is all about the Alps, snow, and chocolates! But off-late it has made it to the headlines for art, thanks to British artist Damien Hirst who recently installed one of his massive sculptures in the middle of Lake St Moritz. The water body frozen in the winter now houses a beautiful figurine for the connoisseurs’ view.

Known as ‘The Monk,’ the installation marks the opening of Hirst’s first exhibition in Switzerland. The sculpture was previously exhibited at The Treasures of The Wreck Of The Unbelievable event, held in 2017 at the Punta Della Dogana in Venice.

Measuring 12 ft. high, the gigantic figure representing a monk in full meditation was dropped onto the ice covering the Swiss lake. The sculpture will be joined by another of Hirst’s works, i.e., Two Figures with a Drum, which will be perched right at the water body’s edge.

Additionally, fans will also view over 40 of his famous works at the exhibition titled Mental Escapology. The event will occur in St Moritz across four locations, from the Neoclassical Forum Paracelsus to the well-iced lake and the Protestant Church in the center of town. It will run from January 23 to February 28, 2021. All said, grandeur and art sure go hand in hand in Hirst’s world!
