It’s not everyone that decides to spend $32,000 on a flight from New York to Abu Dhabi even if it is to experience the Residence, the airline’s ultra luxe service that comes complete with a butler! However, Brian Kelly (a.k.a. The Points Guy) bit the bullet and reviewed the experience for luxury loving readers.
The experience begins outside Brian’s own building where not one but two drivers arrived in separate cars for him and his luggage. Brian travelled to JFK airport in a wi-fi equipped BMW 7 series sedan while his luggage got a ride in a Cadillac Escalade.
No less than five Etihad employees gave Brian a hero’s welcome at the airport where he didn’t even have to check in. His luggage tags and boarding pass were pre-printed which means no time spent waiting.
After security, Brian was led to Etihad’s new lounge at JFK where he enjoyed signature cocktails and was introduced to yet another lounge. This one was behind a secret door and reserved only for The Residence passengers.
At the gate, Brian’s butler for the flight, Eren, greeted him and led him into his temporary abode. Eren attended to Brian’s every need throughout the 12 hour flight, serving meals, prepping the shower and waking him up from his nap when it was time to land.
The living room features a European leather couch and a television. Passengers also have access to wi-fi.
Residence guests naturally have access to a private shower and bathroom filled with Acqua di Parma products.
The bedroom is equipped with a comfortable double mattress to ensure that guests have a blissful night of sleep.
Brian enjoyed a thanksgiving meal complete with turkey, sides and pumpkin pie courtesy of Chef Enrico.
Brian was served a vodka martini made from Double Cross whose bottle was engraved with his name and flight number.
He also enjoyed a made to order omelet for breakfast.
On landing, Brian had a rest in the arrivals lounge at AUH. Guests can spend some time here before being driven to their destination as part of the Residence experience.
Overall, the experience was one-of-a-kind. If you have $32,000 lying around the house, book your trip soon!
