Now how about that? An African safari with Belmond, in the company of a fine Scottish author. Bliss, if you are a bookworm with some wanderlust under your wings. Alexander McCall Smith, the man behind The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, also known as the creator of Botswana’s ‘unofficial’ first lady – Mma Precious Ramotswe, will lead an exclusive safari with Belmond from November 10 – 16. It will include Belmond’s three luxury lodges in northern Botswana, each located in a completely different ecosystem and promising ‘a diverse experience of Botswana’s great unspoilt wilderness’.
The six-night itinerary begins at Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge in the heart of Chobe National Park where you can get a look into the living neighbourhood of elephants and lions. Next is Belmond Khwai River Lodge which overlooks the Moremi Wildlife Reserve. Here guests, a total of eight, can get to experience some nighttime fun, following nocturnal predators on the hunt, like a hippo or the Giant Eagle Owl.
Lastly, Belmond Eagle Island Lodge, which has been featured in a few of Smith’s books, will give you a water-focused safari experience, with activities including motorboat safaris, barge cruises and mekoro safaris. The journey also includes a open-sided helicopter ride over the wilderness.
The package, called “Journey to the Heart of Botswana with Alexander McCall Smith” is priced from $7,985* per person, based on two people sharing and includes six nights’ accommodation in a luxury tent (two nights at each lodge) including all meals, drinks (excluding imported champagne and South African Reserve Wines), two daily game viewing activities, return scheduled light aircraft inter-lodge flights from Maun, national park fees, laundry services and emergency evacuation insurance.
So, what are you waiting for?
