Munich Airport is giving fliers something to rave about with their new restaurant: Sportalm. The Alpine-themed restaurant is located in Terminal 2 and is complete with tree trunks, an old barn door, and a decorative stone trough to make it look like a traditional Upper Bavarian farmhouse. Unbelievably, the restaurant is home to a gondola from an actual ski lift which forms a unique dining booth for visitors.
“We wanted passengers traveling through Munich Airport to have yet another type of dining experience,” Corinna Born, Director International Media Relations for Munich Airport, told Condé Nast Traveler, “We already have our popular Airbrau, where you can tour a brewery and dine in a beer garden in the middle of the airport. With Sportalm, you can now feel like you’re dining in the middle of the mountains.” At Sportalm, diners can munch on kaiserschmarrn (a shredded pancake dish), pastas, and salads.
But if the fantasy European setting is not your style, you can always head to the restaurant’s lower-level sports bar or the upper-level sun terrace.
