America’s oldest cathedral will be transformed into a spectacular sight by the world’s oldest watch company still in the hands of its founding families this Saturday. Swiss Audemars Piguet will be the official sponsor of Flash: Light, a featured project of the New Museum’s Festival of Ideas for the New City, where the St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Mulberry Street will be scintillating in light and art. Multi-media artist Jeff Grantz will do the fully-animated light installation. The cathedral will become something of a transparent timepiece with the highlights of Audemars Piguet Signature movements. Since there is no extravaganza shortage here, North America’s largest LED sign, the American Eagle Outfitters electronic billboard in Times Square, will advertise this event. The event will also include a projection on the New Museum Facade: Let Us Make Cake, directed by Nuit Blanche New York and Light Harvest Studios, involving many established and emerging artists.
