This year’s Baselworld was all about the smartwatch as famous watchmakers from all over the globe were on hand at the event to showcase their watch making skills. And while we’ve already heard news of the big Swiss brands getting into the smartwatch fray with companies like Frederique Constant, Tag Heuer and Breitling taking the lead, the Italians are not to be left behind as Bulgari has also dropped the curtain unveiling it’s all new Diagono Magnesium concept watch.
While this unassuming ‘smartwatch’ doesn’t look the part at all (not that the other do), it is in fact a highly sophisticated mechanical watch that features self-winding and comes with a what’s being called the Luxury Wrist Vault; a protected electronic passport of sorts, complete with NFC connectivity to access your smartphone and other corresponding hardware. According to the Italian watchmaker, the passport software and set up via NFC can be utilized for a variety of purposes like gaining access into exclusive places like VIP lounges etc, making payments, starting your vehicle and more importantly, to secure your personal data. That’s right, with a microchip embedded into the Diagono Magnesium, once the watch pairs up to your handset, you can be rest assured your personal and private data is well looked after.
