The ad looks like a new luxury watch has been released, but don’t be fooled by the smartly dressed, well-built businessman-looking model, playing a piano – for all we know it is an Olympiad relaxing after a big game, pursuing a hobby.
Garmin’s new smartwatch is the fēnix Chronos GPS timepiece. It comes in three versions – titanium with a titanium-brushed band, steel with a steel brushed-band and steel with a leather band. It comes priced at $1,500, $1,000 and $900, respectively.
Before raising your eyebrows, look at its features – a sapphire lens with high scratch-resistance, water rating of 10 ATM making it water resistant up to 100 metres, a 1.2-inch Chroma display features LED backlighting to help you see at night, or bright sunlight, wireless connectivity, compatibility and customization with apps and widgets with Connect IQ, and a multisport navigational toolset including an omni-directional EXO antenna with GPS and Glonass satellite reception and various sensors such as altimeter, compass and barometer to keep a track daily activities like walk, run, climb stairs, etc as well as more strenuous ones like swim, bike, or row. You can also connect your smartphone with the smartwatch and get calls, emails, text alerts at your wrist. Lastly, most importantly, the watch can last up to 25 hours in a single charge, or 13 hours in GPS mode or up to a week in smartwatch mode. Oh, and Garmin Elevate helps you keep a watch on your heart rate 24/7.
