MB&F surprised us at Baselworld this year with their revelation of interesting timepieces, thanks to a collaboration with James Thompson of Black Badger Advanced Composites. Their new renditions are named the HMX Black Badger and the Starfleet Machine Black Badger, both are additions to the existing line.
The HMX Black Badger could best be described as a 3D watch. It is controlled by a caliber that is developed in-house by MB&F. A Sellita gear train powers the watch, which the radiates bright colors that make reading time a rather trippy affair, irrespective of the time of the day and lighting conditions. You have a choice of vibrant colors to choose from, including Radar Green, Phantom Blue and Purple Reign. The cover of the mechanics is transparent thus showing up the brightly illuminated backlight on the watch. The shine of the HMX Black Badger is said to be more radiant than the conventional luminous timepieces. It costs 48,000 Swiss Francs, which is about $49.2k.
The other glowing beauty released was the Starfleet Machine Black Badger. The hour and minute hands rotate beneath the central dome. The dome is decked with MB&F’s trademark numerals with 20-seconds intervals being indicated by double retrograde fly-out cannons. You wouldn’t expect it, but there is a power reserve indicator on the watch as well. The striking presence of the arc is the result of a hand-crafted beauty. It will cost 33,000 Swiss Francs or about $33.8.
These dials may seem too radical for some but MB&F make sure that they appease those who can truly appreciate the fruit of their alliances
