Omega takes to Instagram to sell its first watch online

Watch makers have been seemingly reluctant to sell their horological wonders online. But this is trend is gradually changing. To fuel this news, we have Swiss watch maker- Omega that recently introduced a limited edition timepiece to be exclusively sold online. Taking resort to the brand’s Instagram page, Omega will showcase the unique timepiece on the social media portal with a link that will direct interested buyers to a dedicated web page for reservations.

Titled as the “Speedmaster Speedy Tuesday”, the watch is special for more reasons than one. Firstly, it’s creation is wholly inspired by the popular social phenomenon initiated by enthusiast Robert-Jan Broer, the founder of Fratello Watches. Credits Broer, dedicated Omega fans have been using the Speedy Tuesday hashtag for the past five years to celebrate Omega timepieces with comments and pictures. Secondly, this exclusive watch marks the brand’s first foray into online sales in association with Instagram.

The Omega Speedmaster offers a unique inverse panda dial, which comprises silvery white chronograph counters against the backdrop of a pitch black dial. The aesthetics have been drawn from the Alaska Project III model created for NASA in 1978, with the reverse panda look being used by the brand for the very first time in 1966. Around 2,012 pieces of the Speedmaster model will be made available for reservation. Further, customers can also specify the limited edition number they want, subject to availability. Though the price remains a mystery, the chosen and reserved watches will be delivered to the owners in the summer of 2017.
