Omega Speedmaster has the distinction to be the only watch qualified to be a part of every manned NASA mission. However, that isn’t Omega’s first space visit; astronaut Wally Schirra wore a Speedmaster at his Mercury-Atlas 8 mission in October of 1962. To celebrate 50 years of the event, the brand has come out with “First OMEGA in Space,” honoring Wally Schirra. Sporting a 39.70 mm polished brushed stainless steel case, the watch comes with a manual-winding caliber 1861. It also features a black aluminum bezel ring with a tachymetric scale, reminiscent of the classic Speedmaster.
The limited edition watch shows 30-minute and 12-hour counters at 3 o’clock and 6 o’clock respectively and a small seconds sub-dial is at 9 o’clock. The hour markers and hour and minute hands come coated with Super-LumiNova. The watch with 50-meter water resistance is finished in a brown leather strap with beige stitching.
