When it comes to watches, we’re not easily impressed. From glittering diamonds to technical artistry and from high tech models to some that are just fun, we’ve seen it all. Despite this, some brands still capture our fancy thanks to their commitment to beauty, quality and imagination and Vacheron Constantin’s Métiers d’Art Fabuleux Ornements collection definitely falls into this category. It’s been two years since the collection was first launched and now at long last four new designs have been released. Ten talented artisans have reinterpreted traditional art forms like Ottoman architecture, Chinese embroidery, Indian manuscripts and French lacework and have continued the tradition of creative openworking.
Each watch features a hand-engraved movement: calibre ultra-thin 1003 in 18K gold. The stunning the front-facing décor is precise to almost the tenth of a millimetre, while on the back features a chamfered and hand-drawn finish that creates a refined look.
Métiers d’Art Fabuleux Ornements – Indian manuscript
This model has a deep purple strap which echoes the colors used in the distinctive dial as well as the 18k white gold case. Artisans employed Grand Feu champlevé enamelling and hand engraving techniques to create this India-inspired design. Boasting a total of 85 round-cut diamonds this watch sports a total of approximately 1.1 carats worth of diamonds.

The French Lacework model features a translucent hand-guilloché Grand Feu enamelled dial, an openworked 18kt gold plate, a setting of 5 garnet-colored sapphires and 48 round cut diamonds. The base of the gold dial possesses a guilloché motif that lends depth to the stunning design. The French lacework model flaunts 193 round-cut diamonds, for a total of about 1.4 carats and 5 garnet-colored sapphires for a total of around. 0.04 carats. The scarlet color of the sapphires is replicated in the alligator strap.
Métiers d’Art Fabuleux Ornements – Ottoman architecture
This Ottoman inspired watch is characterised by hand chamfering and a natural white mother-of-pearl base beneath a gold grid work studded with half-pearl beads. It also boasts a millegrain ring and 85 round-cut diamonds that comprise about 1.1 carats. Its burgundy strap perfectly complements its unique design.
Métiers d’Art Fabuleux Ornements – Chinese embroidery
This Chinese embroidery watch may just be our favourite thanks to its use of the stone- cloisonné technique with jade. Its dial is sculpted from mother-of-pearl and features a pink opal shaped in accordance with the glyptic art and surrounded by hand engraved gold leaves and pistils. It has a pale pink strap and features a total of 145 round-cut diamonds adding up to around 1.2 carats with the jade and opal adding up to approximately 2.4 carats.
Each watch has the Swiss manual-wind Vacheron in-house caliber 1003 SQRH2 movement crafted in 18kt gold which is ultra-thin, openworked and hand-engraved. It has 18 jewels, 18,000 vph and a power reserve of 31 hours. Each case is 18kt of white or pink gold and comes with double sapphire crystals with water resistance to 30 meters. The alligator leather straps come with an 18kt white or pink gold buckle in the shape of a half Maltese cross-shaped set with 21 round-cut diamonds. These watches bear the much coveted Hallmark of Geneva and will only be available at Vacheron Constantin boutiques.
