Van Cleef & Arpels’ Five Week In a Ballon timepiece to debut at the SIHH2011

Some watches are too hard to explain. Then some watches are too hard to get. Not this Van Cleef & Arpels thankfully. Called the “Five Weeks In a Balloon,” this new piece from the French exquisite jewelry and watchmaker debuts at the SIHH 2011 in Geneva (January 2011). Inspired by the world-famous fictionalist Jules Verne and his extraordinary voyages novel by the same name, this watch’s beauty is its presentation of the theme. The dial of this watch is decorated with champlevé enamel and inlaid with mother-of-pearl. The fascia depicts a hot air balloon taking flight into the air of Zanzibar. The hours and minutes are indicated by the balloon’s anchor’s retrograde movement and a bird in flight. And if you, like us, love fairytales, owning this could be akin to having a story in hand always!
