Until now I was a proud owner of few penny-sized pure gold coins. But after taking a look at the 220-pound gold coin my pride has fizzed out. I no more feel rich! But if you’ve got a couple of millions on hand then you can bid for the world’s largest coin. Minted by the Royal Canadian Mint, this only-one-of-its-kind coin is stuffed with $2 million of gold bullion, with maple leaves on one side and Queen Elizabeth II on the other. Moreover, this is the first 100-kilo coin available for sale. The coin actually has a face value of $1 million Canadian but the solid gold bullion – 99.999 percent pure – would be worth about $2.4 million U.S. if the coin was melted down.

Teletrade, an online company that deals in coins, is holding an online auction. It will be finally be auctioned off on August 16 but you can take your chance as bidders have already started trying their luck. I’m sure the Canadian Mint is happy with the response as they already have plans to mint at least four more coins in the series.
