The Manta Resort at Pemba Island has an underwater room

Plans have been in the pipeline for underwater hotels. But what if I were to tell you that you could make do with an underwater room till then? It’s true! Pemba Island’s Manta Resort has a new underwater room. Part of the Zanzibar archipelago off the coast of East Africa, the resort’s newest feature allows guests to book a private floating island, part of which is submerged 13 feet below the Indian Ocean.

For me, it satiates the quest to experience scuba diving minus the fear of the ocean; for you, it could fulfill what you care to imagine. Besides offering a rare opportunity of sleeping under the sea, of course, plenty much in itself if you ask me! The room features loads of windows, and there are two additional floors for an airier atmosphere. And when I say “airier atmosphere,” I’m talking about a full-fledged terrace that you could use for sunbathing or stargazing or better, for both!

With nothing but swimming fish and other sea creatures for neighbors, the room is a $1500 a night, luxurious respite even for those without a penchant for the underwater. Rates for a single person remains $900. The Manta Resort also offers stunning seafront villas (Double- $745 room/night, Single- $450 room/night) and garden rooms (Double- $495 room/night, Single- $300 room/night).
