Bid for Princess Diana’s first “post-engagement” appearance dress

Not too many people would have the courage to step into Diana’s shoes, the Princess of Wales. If you think you can, then this should be a god-sent opportunity. In her first public appearance, a black dress worn by Princess Di after her engagement to the Prince of Wales in 1981 is all set to go under the hammer. Not the best choice of colors, especially for the usually demure royal family, the dress was believed to be destroyed by the traumatized princess. In reality, the nervous lady lost so much weight in the run-up to her hyped wedding that the designers David and Elizabeth Emanuel thought it better to re-design the dress in a smaller size and held back the dress till it resurfaced.

From the Emanuel Archive of Princess Diana, other rare personal belongings in the collection of 30 lots include actual clothes worn by the Princess, fashion sketches, invoices, letters, and related items. The sale of items is touted to fetch a total of £269,000.
