At the end of it all, not the Baratheons, Lannisters, or Starks, but the Iron Throne of the iconic Game of Thrones show reigned supreme at Heritage Auctions for $1.5 million.

From loving Jon Snow to disliking Daenerys Stormborn to wishing we could claim the Iron Throne for ourselves, Game of Thrones took us on an emotional rollercoaster. No wonder, then, that the show, which dominated our hearts and screens from 2011 to 2019—saw fans flocking to Heritage Auctions in Dallas from Thursday to Saturday to bid on hundreds of iconic costumes. The auction featured 900 items, including suits of armor, swords, jewelry, and other memorabilia from the HBO series, raking in an impressive $21 million.

Among the top sellers were Jon Snow’s fur cloak and Night’s Watch ensemble, Daenerys’ outfits, and Jaime Lannister’s golden hero hand and cuff. But it was the Iron Throne that stole the spotlight, fetching $1.5 million after a six-minute bidding war. This particular throne, a replica from the show’s promotional tours, was cast from the original screen-used prop, said to have been forged by Aegon the Conqueror, the first Targaryen king. Adorned with metallic paint and jewel embellishments, it captured the attention of over 4,500 bidders. According to CNN, the auction was Heritage’s second most successful entertainment sale just shy of the record set by a Debbie Reynolds sale in 2011.

Other items that went under the hammer included Jon Snow’s signature sword, Longclaw, which sold for $400,000, and his Night’s Watch ensemble for $337,500. It seems fans ensured that even if not in the final season, Jon Snow emerged as a winner in this auction.
