Those who thought they wanted to “live like a queen” will have to think again. According to latest reports, even the Queen of England is down to her last million. And while I’d be glad to have a million to begin with, for Her Majesty, it equals overspending courtiers and royal palaces that are “crumbling”.
Its true! The Commons public accounts committee has discovered that the Queen’s advisers are failing to control her finances. Meanwhile, the staff protects art and antiquities by catching rain in buckets. Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle are reportedly in urgent need of repair even as advisers of the Queen have overspent to such an extent that her reserve fund has fallen from £35 million in 2001 to just £1 million.
According to Margaret Hodge, the Labour chairman of the committee, “the household must get a much firmer grip on how it plans to address its maintenance backlog. It has not even costed the repair works needed to bring the estate back to an acceptable condition.” Clearly not!
At this rate, the Queen’s old boilers will continue contributing to bills of £774,000 a year, over $1 million! Guess we know where them last £1 million will be gone! Lets just hope the royal family doesn’t have to turn to auctioning Princess Diana’s dresses for reasons other than the charitable!
