Two of the world’s richest people are ready to slog it put in an MMA ring after Mark Zuckerberg accepted Elon Musk’s cage fight challenge. After months of back-and-forth on social media, the 51-year-old Twitter owner challenged Zuckerberg to a “cage match” this week. The Facebook founder replied by posting a screenshot of Musk’s tweet on an Instagram story with the caption “send me location.” As we all know, Musk is not the kind to be easily scared, and he responded by tweeting: “Vegas Octagon.” The world’s richest man later quipped, saying: “I have this great move that I call ‘The Walrus,’ where I just lie on top of my opponent & do nothing.”
While Musk has both height and weight advantages over his Meta counterpart, Zuckerberg is not only 12 years younger but also possesses some serious martial art skills. The 39-year-old has been training hard under Dave Camarillo at Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu since the beginning of the pandemic and even recently picked up two medals in a jiu-jitsu tournament. Zuckerberg’s fitness is not limited to rolling on the jiu-jitsu mat, either. Earlier this month, the Facebook founder announced that he completed the grueling Murph workout in a record 39:58 mins, which would have placed him in the top 5 at the 2015 Crossfit games. The workout involves completing a circuit of a 1-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and finished by another 1-mile run, all done while wearing a 20lb weighted vest.
On the other hand, there is a man who claims he doesn’t work out at all. Musk tweeted: “I almost never work out, except for picking up my kids and throwing them in the air.” On an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, he also discussed his fitness regime and said: “The older I get, the harder [it is] to stay lean, that’s for sure.” However, the billionaire has also trained in Kyokushin karate, taekwondo, judo, and “Brazilian jiu-jitsu briefly” during his childhood. It will be interesting to see if those skills come to his rescue. Nevertheless, the clash of the tech titans has all the ingredients to become the biggest celebrity fight.
Smelling an opportunity here, UFC President Dana White wants to make this into reality. “I was talking to both Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg last night, both guys are absolutely dead serious about this,” Dana White revealed to TMZ. He further added: “This would be the biggest fight ever in the history of the world. Bigger than anything that has ever been done. It would break all pay-per-view records, these guys would raise hundreds of millions of dollars for charity. You don’t have to be a fight fan to be interested in this fight. Everybody would want to see it.” If the fight happens, who will you be rooting for? I’ll have my money on Zuckerberg.
