Could these be the most expensive crayons in the world? Karl Largerfeld creates $2,800 drawing and coloring kit for Faber Castell


Karl Lagerfeld is known for many things not least of which are his sketches which are eventually brought to life as stylish ensembles. To create his beautiful and detailed fashion illustrations, Karl uses only the finest tools: a set of Faber-Castell color pencils. And now, the designer is taking his relationship with the brand to a new level with the launch of a new limited edition set of drawing tools called Karlbox.

The kit includes a staggering 350 tools for drawing and painting including the brand’s Albrecht Dürer pencils, Polychromos color pencils, Pitt ink pens, and Castell 9000 graphite pencils along with brushes, a foldable cup, erasers, and sharpeners.

These items are collected in a gorgeous black cabinet that features pull out drawers for each set of tools. Only 2,500 such kits have been created and they are to be sold exclusively at Faber-Castell stores, Karl Lagerfeld boutiques and Harrods in London. Each kit is priced at €2,500 or $2,850.

“To me, drawing is like breathing and writing. These are things that almost relax me,” Largerfeld said after mentioning that Faber-Castell has been regarded as a high-quality brand since the designer was a child. His instruments of choice are the Albrecht Dürer range of pencils, which according to Faber Castell can function as traditional watercolors on the right paper.
