Leica’s X-U is the company’s first underwater rugged camera

If you’d think about a Leica submerged in water, 49 feet below the surface, then it would be a rather catastrophic scenario. However, this isn’t the case with the X-U rugged camera. The first from the house of Leica, this amazing shooter has amazed us aplenty with a promise of being rustproof, shockproof when dropped from four feet and of course, the 49-feet waterproof ability. This means that you could be rich and rugged and still have a shooter that survives all your misadventures.

In front the camera sports a 16.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor with the hallmark Summilix 23 mm f/1.7 lens. You will find the manual shutter speed and aperture control dials atop the camera. Also placed above the lens is an integrated flash.

You can review and preview your shots on a 3-inch 920k-dot LCD display that shows off your captures loud and clear. You can enjoy shots captured at 5 fps thanks to a maximum ISO of 12,500. It also captures 1080p HD footage at 30 fps.

Buildwise, the rubberized exterior does well to absorb shocks and also serves as a fantastic grip. It’s not only great to use but also a handsome camera to tout. It will retail for $2,950 this January.
