If the privacy and security of data on your smartphone are of supreme importance to you, there’s a new device in the market that runs on blockchain technology and offers an added layer of security. Pundi X, a leading name blockchain developer, has revealed a smartphone called Blok on Blok (BOB) at IFA 2019 in Berlin. Claimed to be the world’s first fully blockchain-powered smartphone, it is basically a new version of the company’s phone that was revealed last year. Pundi X says it is the first smartphone in which every bit of data will be executed on the Function X blockchain ecosystem – a novel decentralized network. What that means is no centralized service providers will be able to keep users’ data while using their services and calls, text and every digital platform the user accesses will be fully decentralized.
The Pundi X BOB works on a hybrid model allow users to seamlessly switch between blockchain mode and Android mode. The Android mode resembles the traditional Android-powered devices with all its functionality, while the blockchain mode runs on the open-source f(x) OS and contains all of BOB’s decentralized processes, giving users complete control over their data. The other highlighting feature of the Pundi X smartphone is its modular design. Users can personalize its design with a MOD Assembly Kit, which consists of detachable parts that make up the BOB smartphone’s external look. “BOB marks a big step forward in our mission of creating a Blockchain Internet, a fully decentralized network where every piece of data shared is under the owner’s control,” said Zac Cheah, Co-founder and CEO of Pundi X. “More importantly, BOB gives a sneak peek of a world powered entirely by blockchain technology, where everyone has control over their own data and everything is executed with the expectations of immutability and transparency.” The company has launched a Kickstarter campaign for the device and it’s priced at $599 with only 5000 devices planned to be sold for the first batch.
